May 25th - 27th:

Yuri Temirkanov, conductor

Julia Fischer, violin

Weber: Euryanthe Overture, Opus 81

Beethoven: Violin Concerto, Opus 61 in D major

Shostakovich: Symphony No. 1 (premiered in 1926)

The next three weeks feature the farewell series of concerts with Maestro Yuri Temirkanov. We are relishing the last few concerts with the Maestro and these performances are not to be missed!

This week is a celebration of youth. First, Julia Fischer, an amazingly gifted 23 year old violinist performs the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the orchestra. On the second half, Temirkanov conducts Shostakovich’s 1st Symphony – impossibly created by an eighteen year old Dmitri Schostakovich.

After the third of four rehearsals for this weeks program, Ellen Troyer spoke with Yuri Temirkanov about the music we're playing this week. Marina Stokes translated for the Maestro.
