On Sunday September 16th, 2007, BSO Concertmaster Jonathan Carney will present all three of the magnificent violin sonatas of Johannes Brahms. Accompanied by pianist Lura Johnson, this performace will take place at the Towson Unitarian Universalist Church in Towson, as part of the Music In the Great Hall concert series.

BSO Principal Oboist Katherine Needleman appeared with the Peabody Concert Orchestra and Hajime Teri Murai on February 10 in Bohuslav Martinu's Oboe Concerto, as well as David Ludwig's Radiance for oboe and string orchestra, written for her.
Katherine is a founding member of Astral Winds, a woodwind quintet. Their last concert at An Die Musik was sold out. They appear there again on April 14 and 8PM. For more information, click here.
BSO's Assistant Concertmaster Igor Yuzefovich performed with the Lancaster Symphony January 13th and 14th. LSO's concertmaster, Mr. Yuzefovich was a soloist for 4 performances of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto.

The Monument Piano Trio are An die Musik's Artists-in-Residence. Igor Yuzefovich (violin) and Dariusz Skoraczewski (cello) are BSO musicians. Rounding out the group is Michael Sheppard on piano. Baltimore native and world-renowned violinist Hilary Hahn performed in a special chamber music concert to benefit the Zion Lutheran Church on Thursday December 22nd. This concert also featured soprano Janice Chandler-Eteme, BSO Principal Bassoonist Phillip Kolker, BSO Principal Second Violinist Qing Li, and other members of the BSO. Hilary made her debut with the BSO at the age of 12, and has frequently performed and recorded with the BSO.

BSO Assistant Concertmaster Igor Yuzefovich performed with the Peabody Preparatory Sinfonietta to perform the Beethoven Violin Concerto. This was a reunion/homecoming concert of sorts for Igor, as he spent 3 years studying in the Prep with his teacher, a member of the BSO violin section - Leri Slutsky.
The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra Concert Lab (BSO Concert Lab) and students at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) teamed up for an experimental performance entitled "Themes and Variations" on Monday, December 5 at 7:30 p.m. The concert took place in Brown Center's Falvey Hall located at 1301 West Mount Royal Avenue. Variations and visual responses created by MICA students,were shown throughout the performance and form an integral part of the concert. The students had been attending BSO rehearsals and meeting with musicians throughout the fall semester as part of two illustration courses, Drawing I and Drawing as Illustration, taught by MICA faculty member Warren Linn. BSO musicians Andrew Balio, principal trumpet, Chris Dudley, principal trombone, Brian Prechtl, percussion, Igor Yuzefovich, assistant concertmaster and Dariusz Skoraczewski, assistant principal cello, performed live and spoke along with the visual artists as part of a discussion forum following the program. The program included the world premiere of "Trail of Memories" (2005) for trumpet and percussion by Dafnis Prieto, and the Baltimore premiere of "Tromba Solo" (1972) by the Norwegian composer Ketil Hvoslef for solo trumpet. Also included were "At the Round Earth's Imagined Corners" (2000) written by BSO percussionist Brian Prechtl, and based on one of the Holy Sonnets by the poet, John Donne, and Zoltan Kodaly's 1914 Duo for Violin and Violoncello. Concert Lab, founded in 2003 by BSO violinist Ellen Orner, is an experimental environment created to explore the very newest in classical chamber music together with emerging visual artists at MICA.
